- Abstract
Anxiety problems are common, have an early age of onset, and cause significant impairment for children and their families. Despite extensive research and practice in parent-centered approaches to prevent and treat childhood behavioral problems, similar approaches to child anxiety were late to start and have been slow to grow. This review provides an up-to-date account of the state of the field, highlighting the potential value of parent-centered approaches to increase access to effective interventions for children and their families. The review concludes with a number of calls to action to ensure we make the most of this opportunity, including the need to improve understanding and practice in relation to developmental and cross-cultural sensitivity of intervention approaches and to meet the needs of currently underserved groups.
